Tantrum

Ms. Rainbow enters
the stage in her gown
of charmeuse silk
quoting Wordsworth
and silences the sun’s
soliloquy on his relationship
with clouds.

Her theatrics are more
jealous tantrum
than artful expression
or love of poetry.

For all her brilliant colors
she only draws a moment’s
adulation before her
attraction begins to fade.

  1. Never liked 'er anyway! I guess the question i would ask of anyone writing poetry is "Are you doing it for daily kudos or would you do it anyway on a desert island?" As for you, Susie Clevenger, I know I'd find you spear-fishing and using up your supply of paper!

  4. AH! This is so good in this caricatured scene and the character sketch. A pointed title as well, matching the tone and flow of this verse. An enjoyable read! :-)

  12. Rainbows don’t last for long. I love the lines:
    ‘quoting Wordsworth
    and silences the sun’s
    soliloquy on his relationship
    with clouds’.

  13. Oh those brilliant rays, but for me I would rather have the poems of shadows and rain.

  14. 'Tis a shame she couldn't figure out how to shine without stepping on the sun's moment.

  15. The ugliness of some leaks through--ugly and dull--even if they set themselves on the brightest of flames.

  16. Biggest flames die out quickly. Poems written from the heart keep.
