Twisted Outback
The wolf reads my state of mind
like it was a plump unaware child.
A true friend, she knows what I’ll say
before it bleeds from my tongue,
and will nip at my heels to keep
me from chasing dead ends.
We survive the twisted outback
of misinformation by weighing what
we know against the desire to waste precious air.

-- great way to land this. Captures an essence of the photo, the stillness, the mutual and unspoken understanding.
Love the wolf as balance and guide--as the image of a strong conscience it works really well.
ReplyDeleteLike a plump child...tricksy Susie, tricksy. And wasting precious air...powerful indeed.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Something to ponder.
ReplyDeleteGoodness Susie--this one has great bite and presence, from the very first words drawing blood--you've taken a suggestive picture and filled it out into a real place, a frightening one, but also a place of certainty, something mostly lacking in our twisted outback of a society today. A sharp and penetrating write; I loved it from first image to last statement.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, thoughtful words, Susie.
ReplyDeleteSharp, biting wit here, Susie. And happy birthday to you!
