The Aftertaste of Kool-Aid
He was a fool, a money chaser
with penny eyes and thin skin.
He sold his integrity for a liar’s promise
politicians would pour gold into the rust belt.
He ignored every song had a dance, every leap
a come to Jesus if bottom was a deflated balloon of hot
air.
Hung by his ignorance on a conspirator’s flag, he cried
foul
when he was caught in his own trap.
"with penny eyes" -- great! And this: "politicians would pour gold into the rust belt." So good!
ReplyDeleteThis is sheer brilliance in poetry my friend, every line! You have nailed that fool for sure, and the title is priceless!!
ReplyDeleteYou went to the dark side ~ a splendid write, Susie.
ReplyDelete"hoist with his own petard" comes to mind!
ReplyDeleteWe are emerging from an abusive relationship - yet it is astonishing how many millions believed the con, and how his enablers sacrificed country for career. I will be glad to see the last of 2020.
ReplyDeletePenny-eyed, thin-skinned, duplicitous, narcissistic, greedy, power hungry and hopefully gone, but I fear he'll spend the rest of his days getting even.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Susie's writer. They all have it coming to them, some just excape for a time, long seems mostly. Did you have someone in mind?
ReplyDelete..
Great take on the pic, Susie. Too many with power have pennies--or benjamins--for eyes, and seem oblivious to the devil's bargain they have contracted, while we are left stranded with a deflated balloon society and a pack of damn lies.
ReplyDeletePS Love the title.
DeleteLove this, Susie. The thought of those penny eyes makes me cringe.
