Carmen Avis

In the prayer spaces of narrow
I place seedlings of an open mind.

Today is here in the green
leaf paintbrush of sky, raven call,
and soft wings of a butterfly.

A child of earth, sibling of sky,
I walk in the choir of voices
singing protect.

Change begins with small things,
grows in the unity of hands.
The “we” of community
begins in the roots of I can.

May I be strengthened by
the notes of a birdsong,
feathered poet of emergent peace.
